Which One Is Better? What Are The Essential Differences between PP Sheet And PPH Sheet?

1. Essential Difference

PP sheet is made of general homo-polymer or co-polymer polypropylene. PPH sheet is β-crystal modified homo-polymer polypropylene. A special nucleating agent is added to form a uniform and stable hexagonal β-crystal structure with denser and regular molecular arrangement.

2. Core Performance Differences

  • Chemical Resistance: PPH sheet has stronger corrosion resistance, suitable for full-range acid and alkali environment (pH1~14), while ordinary PP sheet has limited corrosion resistance.

  • High-temperature Creep Resistance: The high-temperature pressure resistance and long-term deformation resistance of PPH sheet are 30%~50% higher than ordinary PP sheet.

  • Low-temperature Toughness: PPH sheet avoids brittle cracking at -20℃, with far better impact and crack resistance than ordinary PP sheet.

3. Processing Performance Differences (Supplemented)

  • Welding Performance: PPH sheet has uniform fluidity during hot-melt welding, with dense welds without pinholes. It features high welding strength, and the weld is not easy to crack or delaminate. Ordinary PP sheet has poor welding fluidity, prone to pores and cold solder joints, leading to leakage and fracture in long-term use.

  • Cold Bending Processing: PPH sheet has strong resistance to stress whitening, avoiding whitening and brittle fracture during large-angle bending, suitable for tank edge folding and special-shaped processing. Ordinary PP sheet is easy to produce whitening cracks when bent with poor toughness, not suitable for repeated bending.

  • Cutting & Drilling: PPH sheet has uniform texture and low internal stress, with no burrs or edge chipping after cutting and drilling, ensuring high flatness of finished products. Ordinary PP sheet has uneven hardness, easy to produce burrs and edge breakage, resulting in high secondary trimming cost.

  • Thermoforming Performance: PPH sheet has strong resistance to temperature difference, without deformation and rebound during thermal blister and arc forming. Ordinary PP sheet has poor thermoforming stability and is prone to shrinkage and deformation after cooling.

  • Processing Yield: PPH sheet has extremely low internal stress and is not easy to warp after processing. Ordinary PP sheet retains residual internal stress, which is easy to bend and distort during long-term storage.

4. Application & Selection Suggestions

  • Ordinary working conditions (normal temperature, clean water, weak acid and weak alkali): Choose ordinary PP sheet for higher cost performance.

  • Severe working conditions (strong acid & alkali corrosion, high temperature, long-term load, outdoor low temperature, chemical storage tank and anti-corrosion equipment): PPH sheet has better comprehensive performance with longer service life and higher stability.

5. Price Reference

At the same specification, the price of PPH sheet is 20%~30% higher than ordinary PP sheet.
